Picking from the mother bushes was banned in 2006 and the last harvest went to the Gugong museum in Beijing, so no amount of money will buy you a real Da Hong Pao today. Everything sold under the name is grown from their cuttings; there are four cultivars, and ours is Rou Gui, “cinnamon”. The nose is bread crust, roasted nuts, citrus and peppery spice.
