Chinese red tea
Xiaozhong grade A
Black · smoked · Lapsang Souchong
A smoked tea, Lapsang Souchong in the European manner. The story goes that it appeared by accident in the seventeenth century: peasants left the leaves out in the sun, they fermented and darkened, and rather than throw them away someone dried them over pine branches. The nose is burnt caramel, baked fruit and rye bread; the taste is soft but dense, with a compote sweetness and a bready finish. It wraps around you and warms.
